Inland Revenue conducts liquor license awareness program

It is evident that some liquor outlets and night clubs are operating beyond their approved closing time which is creating a lot of nuisance and hazard to surrounding areas in Port Vila and nearby villages of Efate.

This door to door joint awareness program is scheduled for three days starting 11th -15th of May 2015 and the objective of this awareness is to: -

      1. Make sure all liquor license holders operate within the Liquor License Act [CAP 52]

      2. Ensure there is some control to selling and consuming of liquor within the Municipality and Rural areas of Efate

All liquor license outlets operating within the country are advised to familiarize themselves with the Liquor License conditions specifically the opening and closing times as per category which is outlined in Section 18(1) – (4) of the Act.

In addition, it is an offense under Section 24 - if one does not adhere to the requirements of the Act and if convicted shall be liable to a fine of VT50, 000 or imprisonment of not more than 6 months or both.

Therefore, those who have not yet renewed or paid for this year’s liquor license are advised to follow the appropriate procedures to obtaining a liquor license which can be obtained from respective authorities and councils. Follow up checks will be done after this awareness to ensure everyone complies with the law.
