Inland Revenue addresses public drivers permit

 It is important to note before applying for a driver’s permit:

  • All applicants must be 21 years and over;
  • The permit holder must have the following driver’s license categories: 

        1) Common vehicle for buses;  2) and motor vehicle for taxis and public transport;

  • Application forms for a driver’s permit can be collected at Rates & Taxes office and these include the application form and a valid medical certificate (not more than 6 months old). 

When applying for a new permit:

  • Applicants must complete the application forms;
  • Submit completed forms with medical certificate to police for approval;
  • Present approved forms to Rates & Taxes Section for payment and issue of driver’s permit. 

All driver’s permits are valid until 31st December each year and cost Vt2,000 for each category.

Therefore, to renew ones driver’s permit, he/she would be required to:

  • Submit a renewal application before 31st December. Do note that the office starts accepting renewal applications from November each year;
  • Provide a valid medical certificate and surrender the original driver’s permit book;
  • Ensure respective driver’s license is valid upon renewals.

The renewal fee of a driver’s permit is Vt2,000 for each category. 

If a permit holder loses his/her permit, it would cost Vt2,500 for a duplicate book.
