HOW CUSTOMS DUTY & CHARGES APPLY AT IMPORT

Detailed information on duty & charges.

  • Convert foreign currency rate to Vanuatu currency [VUV] by multiplying rates from monthly exchange rates issued on Single window Portal/Department of Customs & Inland Revenue website: https://singlewindow.gov.vu/content.jsf?c=exchange OR in the Asycuda system.
  • Exchange Rates changes every month. Please check nearest Customs offices or the Single window Portal/Department of Customs & Inland Revenue website to obtain valid exchange rate.

Notes:

CUSTOMS VALUE – Is the total cost of Goods, insurance, freight and other charges if any [CIF] declared for customs.  If the Invoice term [Terms of Delivery/TOD] is not in CIF, please contact your shipping agent for the freight charges and the insurance charges.

CUSTOMS DUTY – Is the rate applicable in the HS2022 of the Customs Tariff via this link: https://customsinlandrevenue.gov.vu/index.php/customs/hs-nomenclature. Do note that there are 3 different rates applicable in the HS2022 Customs Tariff, they are: - Import Duty, Excise Duty & VAT. Different goods attract different duty and excise rates.

VAT – Value added tax/VAT is 15%.

1,000VT Fee – Is the declaration transaction fee stipulated in section 19 of the Customs Regulation No. 113 of 2014.

TOTAL PAYMENT – Is the total price to be paid for the imported goods. It includes the duty payable, excise tax if any, and VAT payable.
