Ship’s Crews Spot Fined for Smuggling of Goods

Three crews of a foreign vessel were penalised by the Customs in the Port of Luganville for not complying with the Customs laws. On Friday 17th March, the Customs Officer on night duty intercepted a smuggling of a package containing Chinese foodstuffs and Chinese Brand cigarettes by the Chinese crews.

The package was intended to be handed to their Chinese friends who are employed by the construction company doing construction works on the Luganville International Wharf. The crews failed to deal with the goods in accordance to the Customs Act No.7 of 2013 in relation to landing orders and communication of information to Customs regarding the goods. The crews were spot fined with Administrative penalties under Clause 35 (a), (b), & (h) of the Customs Regulations Order No.113 of 2014. The total amount imposed was 100,000vt.
